Due to the current social distancing restrictions and also because there will not be a Louisville Bats baseball game with fans by July 11th, we have decided, for 2020, to make the Dr. Ed Morgan/Kiwanis Grand Slam 4-Miler a Virtual Run/Walk and for those who might prefer a shorter distance we are also offering a 2-Mile Virtual Run/Walk option this year.
A virtual race is a race that can be run or walked from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on a treadmill or on a track. In other words, you get to run your own race, at your own pace, on a course that you choose and during a timeframe that best fits your schedule and your preference!
The Dr. Ed Morgan/Kiwanis Grand Slam 4-Miler official race day will still be on July 11th, 2020, but you can run or walk and submit your time for the 4-Miler or the 2-Miler any day between July 10th and July 12th. We would love to see everyone out in their own neighborhoods completing their fun run/walk or you can click here for the course map through beautiful Waterfront Park where the Run/Walk has been staged for the past several years.
We also encourage everyone to sign-up some friends and family members to come along with you for your run/walk while, of course, maintaining appropriate social distancing requirements. Above all, we ask that you think of our Run/Walk as a chance to get outside with others (finally!) and to have a good time by getting some exercise, enjoying the sites and celebrating life with friends and family. We also encourage everyone to take some pictures of your experience and send them to the Kiwanis Club of Louisville Facebook page, for everyone to enjoy.
This year you will have the opportunity and the option to raise funds for the Heuser Hearing & Language Academy and for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana when you register online for the Dr. Ed Morgan/Kiwanis Grand Slam 4-Miler. All of the proceeds from our Run/Walk are split evenly between these two fine organizations and this new fundraising option now gives participants an opportunity to raise additional funds for the charity of your choice. As an incentive to use this fundraising process we have decided to refund the registration fee for all participants who raise a minimum of $250 via this option.
Our Race packet this year will include a short sleeve tech shirt (Sport Blue with Navy Blue print) or a cotton blend short sleeve shirt (Heather Orange with Royal Blue print) of your choice. As a special option this year we are offering runners & walkers an opportunity to receive both of these fine shirts for just $10 more added to your registration fee.
Also a race bib and a “no touch sign-of-the-times tool/key chain” (to the first 300 to register) will be included in the Race packet. The tool/key chain can be used on elevator buttons, ATM transactions, debit card purchases, etc.).
Also, a Finisher’s Certificate will be available for download after participants record their finish time.
Register by midnight, June 28th and your race packet will be mailed to you in time to wear your race shirt and bib on your virtual run. Register after June 28th and your packet will be mailed after July 11th.
The race is named in honor of Dr. Edgar Morgan. Dr. Morgan was a dedicated Kiwanis member and long-time advocate for the Louisville running community.
The Kiwanis Club of Louisville is a snapshot of the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro community. We have members from all walks of life and at every step of the career ladder. However we are unified in our belief that our community, our children and our own professional life will benefit from developing relationships with other local leaders.
