UPDATE: Well, if we were having an in-person race for the Snowman Shuffle it would have to be canceled as the roads in Cherokee Park are still completely frozen over. But it’s virtual so we can make adjustments!
Looking at the weather, it doesn’t look like it’s going to warm up enough to melt anything for at least another week. To keep everyone safe, we are going to extend the time to race and record your time to midnight on February 28th.
If you have already raced and recorded your time, here’s your chance to see if you can improve it. We’ll allow a “re-run”! If you have already recorded your time, simply send your updated time to runrivercity@gmail.com and we will update it for you.
UPDATE: Looking at the weather report for this weekend, we’re going to go ahead and open up the race date today, Monday, February 8th if you want to get your race in before the super cold weather hits. Guess that’s one advantage to a virtual event.
With the Snowman Shuffle being the final race in the Polar Bear Grand Prix, once again, like the other two races, you can run or walk your race anywhere and be eligible for the race leaderboard and ranking in the Polar Bear Grand Prix but the actual race awards will be limited to those who run the actual, marked (do not rely on your GPS, run the start and finish and course as marked), send a screen shot of the GPS showing the run on the course to runrivercity@gmail.com. Below is the certified course map and detailed instructions.
We’re writing to inform everyone that the decision has been made that the Snowman Shuffle will have to be a completely virtual event. We appreciate the fact that the City of New Albany did consider our proposals to be able to hold the event live, but as with so many events around the country this year, this decision was a difficult one but was made with the health and safety of everyone as a priority.
Not exactly the way we would have ever thought the 2020/2021 Polar Bear Grand Prix would be run but looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces out on the roads for the 2021/2022 Polar Bear Grand Prix.
Packets will be mailed to everyone with your hat and bib. If you paid for packet mailing, we will refund your packet mailing fee.

Keep in mind that going virtual doesn’t mean we can’t have some competition. As with the Reindeer Romp and Frostbite 5k, we’ll be awarding engraved medals for overall, teams and age groups. Rules are the same, upload your time by midnight, February 14th and, if you want to be eligible for overall, team and age group awards, send a screenshot of your GPS “race” on the course in Cherokee Park to runrivercity@gmail.com and we will have an award ceremony and keep a score for the Polar Bear Grand Prix.
We will keep a leaderboard of all virtual times uploaded but you must run the course in Cherokee Park to be eligible for awards.
