I run for several reasons - it's healthy for my mind and body and it helps me to stay in shape to do the things I want and need to do.
But the thing that keeps me coming back to races and the weekend training runs is the social aspect.
I have met so many friends in the running community and I am constantly amazed at the level of unconditional support they provide.
The thing I am missing most in this COVID pandemic environment is my Saturday morning runs with the guys!
Favorite Distance - I really enjoy the event atmosphere of the half-marathon but being 54 years old I really only want to do a couple of those a year. So I will pick the 5K - I'm an early riser anyway and the great thing about a 5K is you can get there early, run, hang around and socialize and still have the rest of the day to do other things. I have run one marathon (Derby 2017) and would like to do another one eventually - I'll just have to wait until I retire so I can allocate the training time.
Running/Walking Advice - all you really need to run is a decent pair of shoes and the willingness. I only run 3 or 4 days a week. I walk or do the elliptical every other day. I think the low mileage helps me stay healthy. I plan to stick with it as long as I can.
River City Racing - Louisville is a fantastic running town, I think we sometimes take that for granted. River City is a big part of that. You always know the races will be run both professionally and with an air of fun.
I will be ready to get back to racing and running in the parks when it's safe again.
I'm kind of getting sick of the same 3 or 4 running routes in my neighborhood!
If you see me out there - please say hello!
