My passion for running did not start early. When my son started middle school he chose to run for the cross country team. When I attended his races I noticed the camaraderie among his team mates and how, no matter what your ability level was, everyone cheered you on. That inspired me to start running. After running in my first competitive 5K and winning my age group I was hooked. I've been running now for about 12 years.
I enjoy running the Polar Bear Grand Prix every year because the course is challenging (all of those HILLS!), the races are different distances and I love cold weather running.
My favorite distance to run is typically 5K. I have run a few 10k's and one half marathon.
My favorite place to run is anywhere where I can enjoy nature. I'm always looking for different races that I haven't done in different counties in Kentucky and Indiana. The most unique race I have ever run has been through Marengo Cave in Indiana. It was a lot of fun running through a cave!
My favorite thing about running is being a part of the running community. A lot of the same people run the same races I do so it's nice to meet up with them. I've met a lot of nce people over the years. It's always a fun atmosphere. Oh, and I also like winning awards in my age group.
Sometimes people will tell me, "I'd like to run but can't". My advice is to start out small with no expectations then work up to longer distances. But mostly I tell them to have fun! Running is not only good for the body but it's also good for the mind.
I enjoy running River City Races because the races are always organized. Questions are always answered promptly and the safety of runners always comes first. The finish line always has enthusiastic people cheering you on to finish strong.
So grab a pair of good running shoes, get out there and have fun!
